Grief stands out as the sensation or experience people have when they have experienced loss. Grief could be the response to the passing away of a close person in the individual’s life, or it may be the reaction to a significant transition. Signs or symptoms of grief can mimic those of a depressive disorder, however the origin is significantly more specific. After the feelings associated with the loss are worked through, within time, the feelings associated with the sadness usually diminish.
Dr. Dorsay also works with couples. While we interact with each other, we learn what misconceptions, defenses, and long term wounds may be interfering with a deeper level of intimacy within the couple. She guides partners in discovering barriers which restrict power they have for connecting with their feelings and thoughts. In doing this, the partners may experience an environment associated with deeper and more satisfying connection inside themselves and with each other.
Symptoms of depression may manifest in many different variations. People who suffer the pain of depression experience depressed disposition almost all of the time, often every day, and encounter a loss of focus in most matters. Some individuals report feelings of worthlessness or feelings of guilt, exhaustion or decrease in vitality, decreased capability to focus, distuptive sleep paterns (i.e. oversleeping or insomnia), lack of desire for food or overeating, frequent thoughts of death or suicide. When it continues for too long, it may affect how they feel about themselves, their relationships, their school work, or work life. Simply put, it can make the tasks of daily living feel very daunting. Nonetheless, over time, psychotherapy can reduce the signs and symptoms of depression and contribute to an even more satisfying daily life.
